Primary Division Curriculum

“Learning Through Inspiration and Enlightenment”

The ISF Academy cultivates in its Primary students a passion for learning and respect for others. Our guiding principles are:

  • to inculcate in our students an appreciation for Chinese culture and Chinese values;
  • to equip students with the ability to observe, reflect, and formulate questions;
  • to motivate students to learn, create, and act upon personal initiatives;
  • to provide opportunities to practice democratic leadership and teamwork;
  • to build students' respect for other people, other cultures, and of nature; and
  • to help students master first language fluency in Putonghua and English.

Features

Deeply Rooted in Chinese Culture - Chinese traditional values, updated to be relevant to today's environment, are imparted to the students. Please refer to the separate sheet Vision, Mission and Values on our Eight Virtues + One.

Foundation Year to Grade 5 - Students in our Foundation Year are equivalent to those studying in pre-primary, reception, or kindergarten level three in the local system. This program serves as a preparatory year for our Grade 1. Foundation Year students are automatically promoted to our Grade 1 Program subject to their meeting the required academic qualifications.

Bilingual Immersion Program - In early primary, students are immersed in a predominantly Putonghua environment. The medium of instruction is mainly in Putonghua, except for English, Visual Art, and a portion of the Mathematics classes. From Grade 4, there is a gradual shift from a comprehensive Chinese program to a comprehensive English program such that it is roughly 50 percent for each language.

Comprehensive Guidance Program - along with the homeroom teachers, the Primary Head, the Vice Principal (Academic and Student Development Program), the School Counselor, the Educational Psychologist, and the Student Guidance Officer (a representative from the Hong Kong Government Education Bureau) provide comprehensive guidance and support to our students.

Student Development Program (SDP) – We provide every student in the Lower Primary opportunities to learn Dance, Music, Robotics, Speech, and Wushu.  For Upper Primary students, we aim at strengthening their learning in the above areas to achieve a higher level.  For detailed information on our Student Development Program, please refer to the separate sheet included in this package.
