Putonghua and English Mastery
Our students come from both Chinese and non-Chinese homes and many first-time visitors to our campus are amazed to hear them speak Putonghua and English with equal fluency and confidence.
Dual language mastery is the core of The ISF Academy's education. Our faculty is committed to our students mastering two languages and we have a dedicated Bilingual Immersion Curriculum Coordinator who oversees our programs to develop fully bilingual students. The philosophy that all teachers are language teachers – for example, a Mathematics teacher teaching in English is both a Mathematics teacher and an English teacher – permeates the campus and all teachers undergo the necessary training to equip them to teach in this environment.
We utilize a unique immersion approach, emphasizing mastery of written and spoken Putonghua in Foundation Year to Grade 5, shifting to relative emphasis on English commencing in Grade 6. Students are encouraged to work, learn, and play together using the primary language emphasized within their year. The goal is that when they reach upper secondary, students will have achieved mastery in both languages and cultivated a deep appreciation for Chinese and other civilizations.
