SDP in the Primary Division

The Primary SDP has four main parts:

  • Student Independence and Leadership;
  • The Primary Student Development Curriculum;
  • Extra/Co-Curricular Activities; and
  • Experiential Learning Programs, Field Trips, Camps and Overseas Study Tours.

 

STUDENT INDEPENDENCE AND LEADERSHIP

One aim of The ISF Academy is for students to be able to take responsibility for their own behavior and development. From Foundation Year to Grade 5, students are increasingly given more autonomy and responsibility. They hold positions of leadership within their own classes and their grade level. Homeroom teachers work with students to create a class and school culture that ensures that the Eight Virtues + One of The ISF Academy become part of our daily lives.

 

THE PRIMARY STUDENT DEVELOPMENT CURRICULUM

The ISF Academy has identified Five Disciplines that serve as a platform to develop personal skills. These are Dance, Music, Speech, Technology, and Wushu.

In Foundation Year students have lessons in two of the Five Disciplines, Music and Dance, and in Grade 1 and Grade 2, students have the option to choose extended units in either of these two disciplines. After three years in this program, students are encouraged to concentrate on one of the Five Disciplines for their remaining years in the Primary. All courses are offered during regular school hours. 

 

EXTRA/CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

In addition to our curricular program, students have the opportunity to participate in many extra/co-curricular activities in the arts, sports, academics and clubs.

 

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING PROGRAMS AND FIELD TRIPS

Experiential learning opportunities and events that focus on leadership, teamwork and character-building are organized for students on a regular basis by the Experiential Learning Department. These include outdoor-adventure outings, curriculum-related field trips and summer programs for Grade 3 to Grade 5, and, in addition, overnight camps and overseas study tours for Grade 4 and 5.
